Rider Interview With Christian Paterson

A while ago we posted that Heatsink bikes had sponsored a young lad called Christian Paterson from Manchester, who was going all out in his latest video. We were lucky enough to speak to Christian a couple of weeks ago and he very kindly answered some of our questions, hope you enjoy.

Hi Christian, tell us a bit about yourself?

Hey, I’m Christian Paterson, I’m 15 years old and I was brought up in Manchester England and I ride BMX! I ride every day if I can and I’m riding for 2 companies, HeatSinkBikes.com and WeArePark.co.uk both these companies are super supportive they help out a lot in my riding.

How old were you when you first started riding?

I was only very young when I first picked up a bike but even then I was trying little tricks like bunny hops and this was before I even knew what a bunny hop was!

I first started riding skate parks properly when I was about twelve or thirteen. For a year or so before that we had no skate parks locally to ride, so some mates and I would try to make little ramps out of mud and everything we could get our hands on. Eventually we got a mini skate park on our local park, Davyhulme Park; this is when I started to commit to my riding!

Who was you inspiration to start riding?

I would have to say the person who inspired me to start riding was Dave Mirra. Ever since I was a young kid I would always play his PS2 game, ‘Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2’and his videos where the only videos I would watch online as well.

What is your current bike setup?

My current setup is:

Frame: TotalBMX Alex Coleborn signature 657 in White

Bars: United KL 40

Stem: S&M redneck

Forks: Federal 20/20

Seat/post: chunky federal on a federal seat post

Cranks: McNeil conjoined

Chain ring: Primo 25t

Wheels: Odyssey 7ka and primo 7 series rims on profile minis

Tyres: Odyssey Aiken and a Shadow undertaker.

Pedals: BBB metal pedals

Brake: Primo and Snafu.

Brake pads: the Heatsink yellow CNC Vee pads.

Grips: ODI longnecks.

Where is your favourite place to ride?

My favourite skatepark that I’ve ridden……… I would have to say ‘Rampworx’ because there is just something for everyone their no matter what style of riding you’re into, it’s so well maintained as well!

What moves are you currently working on?

I’m currently working on back flips and then flairs at Northbridge skatepark in Doncaster!

When you’re not riding your BMX what else are you up to?

When I’m not riding my bike I’m doing what most teenagers do, eating, sleeping and playing on my ps3.

Do you ride any other discipline?

I don’t do any other sports I’m just fully focused on BMX-ing. I use to skateboard as well as riding but then I packed that in for BMX!

What’s the last song you heard, video you watched and website you visited?

The last song I listened to was Bob Marley-Jamming. The last video I watched was Kyle Baldocks ‘Total BMX Edit’, that video is just crazy! The last website I visited was ‘Vitalbmx’ to see if there is any new edits out :p .

Do you have any more videos in the pipeline?

At the moment I’m looking for someone who will be up for filming an edit with me, so I would say you can expect a new edit by the end of this year.

What are you most proud of?

The one thing I’m most proud of in life is being who I am- I wouldn’t change that if I could.

What are your plans for the future?

My plans for the future are to be the best athlete I can be and hopefully make my dream a reality!

Finally is there anybody you would like to give a shout out to, or thank?

Finally I would like to give a big shout out to my sponsors WeArePark.co.uk and HeatSinkBikes.com for supporting me and staying with me! And I would also like to thank my family and friends for all the support they have given over the years icon smile Rider Interview With Christian Paterson .
